Drinking Water and Sanitation Minister Prem Bahadur Singh has stated that water would be brought to Kathmandu Valley after finishing the remaining task of the tunnel of the Melemchi Project.
According to Singh, Kathmandu folks can use the drinking water from the Melemchi River within one and half years from now. |

KATHMANDU: A hope still exists that the residents of Kathmandu Valley would be able to use the water from Melamchi of Sindhupalchok district within one and half years. While briefing the Environment Conservation Committee of the Legislature-Parliament about the drinking water situation of the country, Minister for Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation, Prem Bahadur Singh, said, “Melamchi is now not a dream, and also not an imagination. It is the reality.” |

RSS Kathmandu: A hope has been raised that Kathmandu valley folks would be able to use the water distributed by Melamchi drinking water project, the most awaited drinking water project, within one and half years.
While briefing the Environment Conservation Committee of the Legislature-Parliament about the drinking water situation of the country, Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation, Prem Bahadur Singh, said, "Melamchi is now not a dream, and also not an imagination. It is the reality." |

The water sources have gone dry resulting in shortage of water supply at various places across the district. Meanwhile, locals in the district also are forced to find out the alternatives. |

I’ve given up trying to manage water for my garlic plants”, says Farsaman Tamang of Susla, Solukhumbu as he shows us his sadly wilted garlic plot. Farsaman is the chairperson of Bhotetham Farmer’s Group in his village. He had been making decent income through garlic cultivation for the past two years. I had met him for the first time some two years ago when he was waiting for a visa to fly off to the Gulf. One of the reasons Farsaman abandoned his plans and stayed put was the hope instilled in him by his success in making money through garlic and other vegetable farming. |
