Sunsari: Inmates at the regional jail Jhumka have been deprived of safe drinking water and well-managed toilets. “The jail administration has made written requests to the jail department and Ministry of Home Affairs several times for managing safe drinking water and constructing well-managed toilets but to no avail,” said jailor Bhojraj Regmi.
Jailor Regmi told that 524 jailbirds, security personnels and jail staffs were facing problems due to lack of safe drinking water and well-managed toilets. He lamented that authorities concerned had not taken heed to solving the problems despite requests. The jail administration invited regional administrator Dharanidhar Khatiwada to have a visit to the jail after its requests to the concerned authorities went unheard. During the visit, the jail administration informed the regional administrator about the problems in the jail. Jailor Regmi and the jailbirds jointly urged him to manage safe drinking water and well-managed toilets in the jail. Source: Naya Patrika, January 9, 2011 |
