Bhaktapur: Bhaktapur is reeling under shortage of drinking water after the Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) supplied only half of the total water demand in Bhaktapur. The daily water demand in Bhaktapur is around 8 million litres. However, the KUKL hardly supplies only 4 million litres of water at present.

There are 9,000 private pipeline connections in Bhaktapur. KUKL has the capacity to supply 6.3 million litres of water daily during the rainy season and 5 million litres during the dry season. However, this year, drinking water production has decreased due to electricity load shedding in the water treatment plant.

According to Amrit Lal Pote, Chief of Bode Water Treatment Plant, the KUKL has been able to produce water for only three hours at present due to electricity load shedding in the treatment plant. Currently, the Bode treatment plant is supplying only 1.5 million litres of water in Bhaktapur.
