Kathmandu: A monitoring team, which conducted a monitoring visit to the water treatment plant of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) at Jwagal Lalitpur on Wednesday, has revealed that the treatment plant has been supplying untreated water to the consumers. The drinking water being supplied by the treatment plant looks like sewer.

Green weeds have grown all over the pond where the KUKL collects water for distribution to the consumers. Consumers say that the KUKL has been supplying contaminated water to the consumers without paying any concern on the improvement of water treatment plant despite of the news published some three weeks ago about the polluted water source in Bode of Bhaktapur.
Sambhu Kadariya, Chairman of Nepal Consumers’ Federation told that the monitoring visit to the treatment plant has made it clear that the responsible water utility KUKL is supplying water of sub standard quality to the consumers. “It is the sheer negligence of the KUKL to supply sub standard water to the consumers,” said Kadariya, adding, “The water is not fit even for washing clothes. The KUKL is playing with the health of consumers by supplying such water.” He also demanded to investigate on the matter and take legal action against the water utility supplying water of sub standard quality to the consumers.
