National sanitation week begins |

Kathmandu: The 9th national sanitation week began from June 1 in the occasion of International Year of Sanitation 2008. In a communiqué released by Department of Water Supply and Sewerage, it is stated that the objective of the Sanitation Week is to construct latrines in VDCs and communities and encourage the locals to use latrines to declare open defecation free zones.
Director General of Department of Water Supply and Sewerage Hari Prasad Sharma told that the government has targeted to provide toilet facility to 60 per cent population of the country within the 3 year interim plan. It is stated in the communiqué that a team of 30 people will be mobilized from the central level for monitoring and evaluating the week long sanitation programme operated throughout the year.
