Biratnagar: Jhauwabari village of Banigama VDC-2 has been declared open defecation free zone after the completion of the toilet construction campaign started by the villagers 6 months ago. About 67 households in the village have constructed toilet in their houses.

A local Nava Jagaran Bal Samuha stated that no one in the village will defecate in the open after the declaration. Chairman of Jhauwabari Drinking Water and Sanitation Committee Laxmi Bhagat told that the committee will charge penalty from the open defecators.
Meanwhile, the locals of Gadhighatta of Babiyabirta-5 have not used the toilets constructed with support from a NGO due to lack of awareness on sanitation. An NGO, Nepal Water for Health (NEWAH) had assisted to construct concrete toilets in 25 houses of Gadhighatta three years ago. According to our Dadeldhura correspondent, the locals of Alitaal and Jogbuda VDC are happy after the construction of concrete toilets in their houses. A local NGO with donors’ assistance has constructed toilet to declare the VDC an open defecation free zone.
