Kathmandu: Lagankhel Environment Improvement Organisation, Lagankhel Youth Club, Historic Saptapatal Reconstruction and Conservation Sub-committee and Stonespout and Source Conservation Organisation will be working on conserving and reconstructing the Saptapatal pond in Lalitpur. The pond holds both historic and religious significance.

Executive Director for Centre for Integrated Urban Development (CIUD), Padma Sundar Joshi stated that reconstructing and conserving the Saptapatal pond would help conserve local water sources in Lalitpur. “The pond is a treasure-house of water because we can revive over 40 water spouts and wells in Lalitpur by conserving and reconstructing this pond,” he said. A press statement issued by the NGO Forum for Urban Water & Sanitation stated that according to conservation experts the pond had been constructed by transporting water from Tika Bhairav and Nallu and it covered 376 ropanis of land, but sadly today it only covers approximately 15 ropanis of land. The press statement also stated that a school has been built on its land and talks are being held to move the school to some other place.
