Bhaktapur: Students and residents of poor settlements are facing problems due to lack of drinking water, sanitation and toilet in the government schools and poor settlements in the Madhyapur Thimi municipality. In a press conference organized by Lyayamha Pucha, a social organization, on December 3, secretary of the organization Naresh Shrestha told that the organization conducted study about the condition of drinking water and sanitation in government schools and poor settlements with support of Lumanti Support Group for Shelter.
He told that the students of the government schools are facing problems due to lack of drinking water and sanitation. He added that boy and girl students are using common toilet in most of the schools and students of some schools are compelled to leave their class and visit their home for toilet purposes due to lack of toilet in the schools. According to the study, most of the schools lack drinking water and toilet facility. The organization stressed that the municipality, government and non-government organizations should show concern in constructing public toilets in the government schools and poor settlements. Stating that the tourists visiting the municipality have decreased due to lack of public toilets, Shrestha told that the organization is actively working in conserving and rehabilitating traditional water sources in the municipality.
