Biratnagar: The Biratnagar Sub-Metropolis has started land purchase procedure for constructing a regional level sanitary landfill site. The Sub-Metropolis had purchased 15 ‘bighas’ of land in Tanki Sinuwari of Morang in 2059 B.S. for constructing landfill site but the land could not be used for disposing garbage as the Kanakalini Battalion of the Armed Police Force located there was reluctant to leave and the locals protested against the construction of landfill site there.

Dilip Chapagain, executive officer of Biratnagar Sub-Metropolis, told that the Sub-Metropolis is going to purchase land with Rs. 20 million received from the government as compensation for the land where Kanakalini Battalion is settled. A team including Santosh Shrestha, environment expert of Simen project and Pramila Nepal, engineer of Biratnagar Sub-Metropolis, has visited different feasible areas for purchasing land and studied technical aspects. “We have seen possibilities of purchasing land in Dangraha as it fulfills all the requirements,” said engineer Nepal.
Executive officer Chapagain told that the Sub-Metropolis is planning to buy a minimum of 15 ‘bighas’ of land and will purchase land after getting report from Simen project.
