By: Bhim Gautam Kavre: It is not a new issue to queue up for hours for drinking water in many places but it can be new for many that one has to stand in queue to defecate in the open place. Students studying in Bagh Devi Secondary School at Jyamdi of Kavre have to stand in queue for 10 to 15 minutes to defecate in the open place. About 600 students study in the school but not a single toilet has been constructed in the school due to shortage of water.
Principal of the school Bhairav Thapa said, “We teach the students to defecate in the toilet but the students are compelled to use open space as toilet due to lack of toilet in the school.” The school has urged the District Education Office to construct toilet and Shanti Janaadarsha Sewa Kendra working in drinking water sector to construct a tank for collecting rainwater. The school has been facing drinking water problem for the past many years. It has appointed two staffs just to fetch water for the school. Source: Rajdhani, April 15, 2009 |
