Kathmandu: Water Supply Tariff Fixation Commission (WSTFC) directed Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) to return extra tariff charged illegally from consumers. Not satisfied with the KUKL clarification on the issue, WSTFC decided to direct the water supply utility to return the extra tariff charged between mid-May to mid-October.
Ratna Sansar Shrestha, member, WSTFC, said KUKL had been asked to submit the list of consumers who were supplied tanker water upon paying extra till October 27. KUKL will be fined Rs. 5,001 as per the Water Supply Tariff Fixation Commission Act-2063. He said the consumers were charged Rs. 250 extra on 5,000 litres of water and an additional Rs. 450 on 10,000 litres. Meanwhile, NGO Forum for Urban Water & Sanitation has lauded the WSTFC decision.
