WATSAN WEEKLY NEWS DIGEST Vol.5 No. 181, November 9, 2009
Dear Readers, It is commendable that the Water Tariff Review Commission, the responsible body formed by the government to review the water tariff, has tried to collect public opinions by conducting a public hearing. However, the public hearing was more dominated by the KUKL staffs as the customers while a few numbers of real consumers present in the hearing did not get opportunity to put forth their views. This act of KUKL is condemnable and it can be taken as a way of influencing the commission’s work. General consumers are not against the water tariff hike but they are more concerned about the assurance of water supply in adequate quantity and quality. Many consumers have been paying tariff for their dry taps and it is certainly unjust to put more financial burden on them. They believe that the review commission will not ignore the issue of really suffering consumers.
