Established in 1990, with the support of DiSvi - International Cooperation – an Italian NGO, ENPHO at present runs a government accredited laboratory for environmental monitoring and analysis and is actively involved in promoting eco-friendly technologies such as Solar Water Disinfection (SODIS), Ecosan toilets and waste water treatment through reed bed systems. The vision of ENPHO is research, development and information dissemination for action. In order to achieve its goal, ENPHO has set the following strategies: Conduct research and develop appropriate eco-friendly technologies that are acceptable to local communities Demonstrate eco-friendly technologies and practices Develop and implement effective marketing strategies to promote eco-friendly technologies Network with partners for coordination and advocacy Develop and conduct trainings on water and sanitation Enhance organizational capacity
ENPHO is governed by a General Assembly which comprises of 71 members from various technical and non-technical fields. The General Assembly makes the major decisions on policy issues and elects an Executive Board once every three years consisting of 11 members headed by the Chairman. The Board meets at least once every two months to monitor and guide the execution of various activities. The day-to-day operation of the organization is led by the Executive Director. The organizational structure consists of the following Units: Program Unit, Resource Center (RC), Environmental Analysis & Production Development (EAPD) Unit, Human Resource Development (HRD) Unit and Finance & Administration (F & A) Unit. In the process of expanding its reach, ENPHO has established regional offices in Birjung & Siddhipur VDC to serve the local communities. The office in Birjung is implementing Arsenic Mitigation Program in the districts of Parsa, Bara, Rautahat, Siraha and Saptari. Integrated Water & Sanitation Programme is being implemented in Siddhipur VDC under the Water for Asian Cities Programme.
